Unplugged In Action, Community Service Week

Earn your "Good Citizen" Badge during Unplugged In Action, Community Service Week!

We kick off our week with the "Good Citizen Challange". Each kiddo will set personal goals of acts of kindness and service they would like to carry out during the week. The incentive is to earn the most, Good Citizen, coupons they can. They will redeem them for rewards in our youth-run shop, The Treasure Box, at the end of camp. The Belfast Soup Kitchen and local farmers will provide their first opportunity to earn coupons with the delivery of boxes and hundreds of pounds of produce. Our staff and campers will come together as a team to build and fill food boxes that will be distributed to citizens of Waldo County.

By midweek we will solidify the roles each camper will fill in our "Fun With Food Outdoor Carnival", hosted by The Belfast Soup Kitchen in collaboration with Unplugged In Action on Friday, August the 27th. We will create recipes kiddos love, make a menu for taste testing, construct activity bags, and continue packing boxes for distribution.

We end our week with a field trip to The Belfast Soup Kitchen for the carnival! We will depart at 9:45 a.m., please arrive by 9:30. Each kiddo will have the chance to serve in a booth and demonstrate kindness to carnival-goers, as well as participate during the event. This is an outdoor, socially distanced carnival. Booths will provide kiddos with adequate spatial distancing. They will not have direct contact with the public. Concessions will be made to order by the kiddos and placed in a no-contact, pickup zone. We wrap up the event promptly at 1:30 and return to campus for more fun and a well-deserved romp on the waterslide. As the day winds down, your kiddo will visit The Treasure Box shop to redeem their Good Citizen Coupons. Last, but not least, we will close our Summer Camp season with our final badge ceremony. Parents are welcome to attend, though it is not required. Photo documentation will be available to those not in attendance.
